ROCHESTER, N.Y. — As a program, BK Selects has been here before.
Four years ago, the 16U team broke through for the program’s first USA Nationals championship. The next spring, the 14Us went all the way.
The quest for national crown No. 3 reaches its crescendo next week in America’s Midwest, as BK’s 15O team heads to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the 14U squad travels to Plymouth, Michigan, to finish the 2025-26 season at Nationals.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - It was an unforgettable weekend for the athletes of Bishop Kearney High School as teams delivered a remarkable run of championship performances across multiple sports. In a span of just a few days, BK celebrated three state hockey championships while the Boys Varsity Basketball team captured a sectional title.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — There’s a reason the BK Selects boys teams value their membership in the Northeast Pack Hockey League.
While every team under the USA Hockey umbrella aspires to make the regular season a training ground for their state playoffs and — ideally — the Nationals, BK Selects believes its participation in the famously competitive NE Pack provides a unique opportunity to prepare for the must-win games at the end of winter.
And that goes regardless of whether they win or lose.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. —In a season that has featured more than a few obstacles for the BK Selects 16U girls, they arrive now at an opportunity.
Win the New York state tournament this weekend and they’ll earn their way to USA Hockey Nationals.
That’s the deal every season, but after a challenging five months, this time of year might feel especially refreshing for Head Coach Jake Anderson’s team.
Haley Winn's dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence reflect the very best of our BK community. Haley was featured in the February “Entertainment” section of the Catholic Courier highlighted on the Courier’s website.
Haley, thank you for inspiring our students to dream big, work hard, and believe that anything is possible!
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — There’s everything else in the world of sport … and then there’s the Olympics.
With apologies to the annual slate of International Ice Hockey Federation events, NCAA regular-season and postseason play, and the trailblazing action of the PWHL, there’s something about competing under those five rings that inspires another level of pride and passion.
And for the eight former BK Selects players who made various Olympic rosters for the 25th edition of the Winter Games, to be held this February in northern Italy, it can be difficult to put the accomplishment into the context of their other athletic triumphs.
ROCHESTER, NY — BK celebrates national and global spotlight, including a hometown Olympian from the Rochester/Webster community.
Bishop Kearney proudly announces that Eight alumnae of the BK Selects hockey program have been named to Team USA, Team Germany, and Team Czechia Women’s Olympic Hockey Team, which will compete this February in Milan, Italy.
MUSKEGON, Mich. — In multiple ways, Rudolfs Berzkalns has already made his mark on North American hockey.
But there’s no sign of contentedness with the way ‘Rudy’ has gone about his business since arriving in Rochester from his native Latvia prior to the 2022-23 hockey season.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The way Ben McManama sees it, he’s got the best of both worlds.
The BK Selects’ 15O head coach has worked with this age group for several years, and he feels it’s a “sweet spot” between childlike enthusiasm for hockey and the intensity that comes with adolescence.
“They’re passionate and have that youthful joy for the game,” McManama said, “But they’re also really competitive.”
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The gold plate makes its presence known, propped up in the Bishop Kearney hockey office.
“It almost stares at us,” said Rochester native Lucy Fitzsimmons, a forward on the 16U girls team.
The plate in question represents the first USA Hockey national championship in nearly a decade of BK Selects girls hockey, won by the 19U team last spring in Massachusetts.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The goal, as always, remains excellence across the board.
But, with four boys teams under the BK Selects roof, all going up against a USA Hockey landscape that grows more competitive by the year, that challenge remains vast.
We’re a long way from accomplishing the mission for the 2025-26 season, but as October reached its midway point, there was an impressive sight: All four BK boys teams were ranked in the nationwide top 10 by the authorities at MyHockeyRankings.com.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — When your offseason itinerary includes a stop at the White House, safe to say it’s a little out of the ordinary.
But as the excitement of BK Selects’ first girls USA Hockey national championship faded into the heat of the summer, the reality set in: There’s a fresh new canvas on which to paint in the 2025-26 season.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Bishop Kearney Selects boys hockey program continued its ascendancy in the hockey world this June, as three of its former players were selected in the NHL Draft — a program first.
Bishop Kearney High School has named longtime RIT associate head coach Brian Hills as the new BK Selects Sr. Director of Boys Hockey. Hills steps in as Chris Collins transitions to a consultant role while expanding his position at Evolve Sports Group. With two national championships and a growing legacy, BK Selects continues its rise as a premier prep hockey program under new leadership.
Haley Winn (‘21), a Bishop Kearney Selects alum, was drafted second overall by the Boston Fleet in the 2025 Professional Women’s Hockey League Draft. A standout defender at Clarkson University and two-time gold medalist with Team USA, Winn now begins her professional hockey career continuing a journey built on determination, talent, and years of hard work.
Rochester, NY — Bishop Kearney High School is proud to announce that its nationally acclaimed Girls U19 Hockey Team has been invited to the White House for a special tour and an official meeting with the President of the United States to take place this Thursday, May 22.
The invitation comes on the heels of a historic season for the Bishop Kearney Selects, who captured the 2024–25 USA Hockey National Championship in dominant fashion, concluding their record-breaking 56-3-0 campaign with a commanding 9-0 victory in the title game. This prestigious invitation is a testament not only to the team’s on-ice excellence but also to their remarkable achievements in the classroom and in the community.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Dan Collins had seen an exceptional performance by his team at USA Hockey Nationals before.
After all, his 16U boys squad was the first at BK Selects to win a national championship, taking the coveted title in the spring of 2022.
But, three years later, he has to sit with a less satisfying, more literal definition of exceptional. You see, the BK 16Us were the only Tier I team across four age groups to post a winning record in Nationals round-robin play and not advance to the knockout rounds, due to a goal-differential tiebreaker.
Combine that with similar near-misses by the 18U and 14U teams, and it was a reminder that elite-level hockey is played on the razor’s edge.
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Perhaps the toughest thing to do in sport is winning a championship wire-to-wire.
Human nature makes it challenging to start at a high level and maintain it for the duration — let alone actually improve as a competitive season continues.
If you add on the compilation of expectations after several near-misses, the mountain becomes even steeper.
It turns out the BK Selects 19U girls team must be comfortable at high altitudes, as they clinched the first girls USA Hockey national championship in program history with an 8-0 victory over the North American Hockey Academy on April 6. The comprehensive win capped an astonishing 56-3-0 season that featured exactly zero (0) losses to USA Hockey opponents, while also ending a nine-year BK girls quest for the coveted golden plate.
