BK Renovations: First Stage of Gym Project Completed
JW
The first stage of Bishop Kearney’s 2025 Gym Renovation Project is complete, with a brand-new floor now curing. Upcoming improvements include new bleachers, handrails, and a weight room. All expected by the end of summer.
We are excited to announce that the first stage of Bishop Kearney’s 2025 Gym Renovation Project is now complete. On Thursday afternoon, Jim Mulford of Finger Lakes Flooring applied the final seal coat to the newly refinished gym floor, marking a significant milestone in this multi-phase upgrade.
Although the refinishing process is complete, the gym will remain closed for the next week to allow the floor to cure and harden properly. This critical step ensures the durability and longevity of the surface for years to come.
We’ve included a series of before, during, and after photos documenting the sanding, painting, and sealing process so that our school community can see the transformation taking place.
The second phase of the renovation will begin on June 10th, and is expected to take two to three days. Steve Blanding from Facilities Equipment and Services will be on-site to replace the bleacher seating on the north side of the gym and install permanent handrails along the aisles on both sides. Many of the existing seats on the north side are still in good condition and will be reused to replace broken seats on the south side bleachers.
Pending the completion of this work, the gym is expected to reopen by the end of next week.
In addition to the new gym floor and bleacher updates, Bishop Kearney is excited to unveil a brand-new weight room this summer. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to enhance our athletic facilities and provide our student-athletes and physical education programs with safe, modern, and high-quality spaces to train, compete, and grow.
The final touch to the gym floor will come the week of June 16, when Jim Mulford returns to install new floor molding.
These much-needed improvements would not be possible without the generous support of the Parents Association and the Sports Boosters. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to our school and our students.
We look forward to sharing final photos later this summer as the full renovation nears completion. Stay tuned!
