BK Football Builds a Strong Foundation with YMCA of Greater Rochester

Bishop Kearney Football partnered with the YMCA of Greater Rochester for 10 weeks of strength and conditioning, laying a strong foundation for the season ahead.

Over the past 10 weeks, Bishop Kearney’s football team has been putting in serious work, not just on the field, but in the weight room, thanks to a partnership with the YMCA of Greater Rochester.

The collaboration brought YMCA training specialists to the BK campus, where they led targeted sessions focused on strength, endurance, and team-building. Sessions took place in the school’s weight room and helped student-athletes push their limits both physically and mentally.

Head Coach Sean Ramsey sees this training phase as a pivotal moment in the team’s growth.

“We always talk about building the house,” Coach Ramsey shared. “We felt last year that we at least dug the hole for our house, and this is the year we're going to start with our foundation.”

The results speak for themselves. One student-athlete increased his bench press reps by 15, using the exact same weight, a testament to the power of consistency, focus, and proper technique.

For the players, the program has meant more than just physical gains.

“The main thing is just dedication, showing up, showing out,” said Austin Billings, BK Class of 2026. “You can't just skip a practice. That's just not how it is. Our team just needs some foundation, and this is giving it to them. We're just really appreciative that you guys are doing this for us. We're excited, and we're going to do the best of our ability.”

This phase of training is just the beginning. The YMCA team will continue working with the players through the summer, preparing them for the upcoming fall season and the start of official practices.

We’re incredibly grateful to the YMCA of Greater Rochester for dedicating their time and expertise to support our student-athletes. The progress these young men have made, in strength, discipline, and unity, is laying the groundwork for a season built on purpose and preparation.
